agROBOfood: gaiasense as a Digital Innovation Hub on smart farming

gaiasense was presented at the 1st meeting of the East-Mediterranean Regional Cluster of the European project agROBOfood, which involves organizations from Greece, Cyprus, Turkey and Israel.

The meeting took place on Monday February 17 2020 at the Agricultural University of Athens, which is the Cluster’s Coordinator.


The meeting of the Cluster stakeholders, among which the Research and Innovation Center “Athena”, the Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH), Ege University (Τουρκία), private companies AGENSO, ΕΤΑΜ, Prapopoulos as well as NEUROPUBLIC, aimed at presenting the activities, the services/products and the interests of each organization, in order to facilitate the identification of areas of cooperation between the actors in the context of the Cluster.


Vassilis Protonotarios, NEUROPUBLIC’s Outreach & Networking Manager, presented the gaiasense smart farming system, which is a Digital innovation Hub of the project on smart farming. The presentation focused on the ecosystem that has been built around gaiasense and allows various stakeholders like researchers, developers of software solutions as well as a manufacturers of specialized hardware components (such as sensors) to develop solutions which they can test under real conditions, making use of big data and experimental fields of gaiasense.


The meeting concluded with a discussion among the participants, focusing on the possibilities for collaboration as well as clarifications about the structure and the operation of agROBOfood’s Regional Cluster.

About agROBOfood

agROBOfood is an EU funded project aiming to build a European ecosystem for the effective adoption of robotic technologies in the agri food sector, which in turn will become more efficient and competitive.

The heart of the project is formed by Innovation Experiments, organized and monitored by Digital Innovation Hubs. In 7 Regional Clusters, Initial Innovation Experiments will demonstrate robotics innovations in agri food, in a manner that ensures replicability and wide adoption across Europe.

Digital Innovation Hubs will support companies in digitization by connecting various stakeholders. agROBOfood already connects the world of Robotics and Agriculture, R&D and business by establishing a sustainable network of Digital Innovation Hubs. The network already counts 49 Digital Innovation Hubs (including gaiasense) and 12 Competence Centers and it will be extended and strengthened during the project.
