Elli Tsiforou, Director General of GAIA EPICHEIREIN, was among the speakers invited by the European Parliament’s Agriculture & Rural Development Committee in the context of a public hearing which took place on 18 February 2020.
The hearing was titled “EU support for innovation in agriculture” (PDF), was moderated by the Chair of the Committee Mr. Norbert Lins, and its panel consisted of EC DG officials and selected research organizations.
Ms. Tsiforou referred to the role of digital innovation in the sustainability of agriculture and focused in the case of Greece.
During her speech, she presented the gaiasense smart farming system, as an innovative approach that allows even smallholder farmers to benefit from new technologies, data and research outcomes in order to ensure the sustainability of food production.
Ms. Tsiforou also referred to the conclusions extracted up to now from the application of gaiasense in Greece and abroad, that may help relevant policy makers to better understand the acceptance of such an approach by both farmers and agricultural advisors.
