On March 7, 2018, the European Farmers’ and Agricultural Cooperatives’ organization COPA & COGECA held a seminar titled: “The olive sector in the EU: Leading nnovation and Sustainability“, at the European Parliament.
The event was hosted by MEPs from the three major olive producing EU countries: Clara Eugenia Aguilera Garcia (Spain, Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats), Giovanni La Via (Italy, European People’s Party) and Manolis Kefalogiannis (Greece, European People’s Party) and implemented with the support and participation of representatives from member organizations of COPA & COGECA from the aforementioned countries, including GAIA EPICHEIREIN.
Dr. Fotis Chatzipapadopoulos, GAIA ΕΠΙΧΕΙΡΕΙΝ’s Member of the Board and NEUROPUBLIC’s President, presented the gaiasense smart farming system. During his speech, Dr. Chatzipapadopoulos focused on its application in the case of olive trees, the methodology and the business approach followed so that it becomes accessible to Greek olive growers. He also highlighted the multiple benefits of gaiasense in both the significant cost reduction and the enhancement of the environmental sustainability.
The event was attended by MEPs, members of national parliaments, executives of the European Parliament, representatives of European farmers’ bodies and agricultural cooperatives, representatives of member-states, while the European Commission was represented by Mrs. Silke Boger, Head of the Unit “Arable Crops” in the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development.
