Mr. Fotis Chatzipapadopoulos, NEUROPUBLIC‘s President and Head of gaiasense and Mr. Nikos Stoupis, CEO of Agrotiki Kainotomia S.A. were invited to the agricultural broadcast Agrotiko Vima of the Greek Regional TV station Delta Television of Thrace. The two speakers referred, among others, to the topic of smart farming in Greece and EU, as well as to the importance of the advisory services and Measure 2 of the Greek Rural Development Programme.
More specifically, Mr. Chatzipapadopoulos analyzed the different and innovative approach followed by the gaiasense integrated smart farming system, which has been developed in line with the needs of small and medium-sized farms that make up the majority of farming farms in Greece and is differentiated from other EU countries.
This difference is so unique that has allowed us to export technology to other partners inside the EU. Up to now, companies active in the smart farming sector targeted farmers with large holdings.
Explaining his rationale, Mr. Chatzipapadopoulos stated: «Now, thanks to the investments we have made for ensuring that farmers do not bear the costs, Smart Farming has become available to small and medium European farm sizes, which make up the majority in our country. Even the producer who owns 5-10 acres of land has access to it. Therefore, the competitiveness gap between European and Greek producers is closing».
Next to that, he added that the development of an integrated smart farming system adapted to the Greek conditions, allows the country to export technology to other European countries with similar structural characteristics as our country, such as high fragmentation of agricultural land and small parcel size.
This provides Greek farmers with a special possibility and an advantage, that Italian, Spanish and Portuguese farmers do not have yet. Therefore it is a pity for them not to make use of this innovative service and enjoy its benefits
Last but not least, Mr. Chatzipapadopoulos noted that: «What we have seen by applying the system for the fourth year, is that production value increases from 10% to 30%. This, in measurable terms, means that an increase of the production value by 10% thanks to the application of smart farming translates to a profit increase of 50%. We are talking about such great improvements».
