The Bulgarian Presidency of the European Union organized an event entitled ‘’CAP After 2020: Next Phase Kick Off’’ which aimed at providing an overview of the 1st phase of the discussions on the future Common Agricultural Policy (announcement of 29 November 2017) as well as the preparation of the next phase (legislative proposals of 1 June 2018). Ms. Elli Tsiforou, Head of GAIA Epicheirein’s Brussels Office, was among the selected speakers of the event, which took place on June 21, 2018 in Brussels.
During her speech, Ms. Tsiforou mentioned that thanks to the joint effort of GAIA Epicheirein and NEUROPUBLIC, Greece is on the top of the EU member states which invest in the digital future of agriculture; she also positively commented on the Commission’s position to focus on knowledge, innovation and agricultural advisory services. On the other hand, she highlighted the fact that the reduction of resources in combination with the dismantling of CAP through the national strategy plans, undermines the ambitious goals which the Commission sets and creates potential risks for the future of the European agricultural sector.
Among the participants of the event were the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development Mr. Jerzy Plewa, the Italian MEP & Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development Mr. Paolo de Castro, the Secretary-General of Copa-Cogeca Mr. Pekka Pesonen and several representatives of the European Commission.
