With great success and with the participation of leading institutional and business representatives from Greece and the European Union, the 11the Conference on the Development of Greek Agriculture, organized by GAIA EPICHEIREIN on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 May, in the crowded Grand Pietra Hall of the Porto Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki.

This year’s Gaia CONGRESS was held with the central theme: “The power of collaboration as a catalyst for achieving sustainability goals” and of course gaiasense could not be missing from such a venture.

Cooperation between technology and traditional structures of the agricultural sector

More than 2,500 people active in the agri-food sector, both with a physical and online presence, participated in the work of the Conference, attending the presentations of about 40 distinguished speakers from Greece and the European Union. Their interventions highlighted, with particular emphasis, the need to strengthen cooperation between technology and traditional structures of the agricultural sector, as a fundamental factor for the formulation and adoption of innovative solutions. At the entrance of the hall, the delegates had the opportunity to see up close an agrometeorological station in a special showcase but also to learn more about how it works and what it can offer to the producer.

Rosa Gargalakou on the digital transition

«The future of Greek agriculture is being built now – and it inevitably passes through technological innovation.” With these words, the CEO of NEUROPUBLIC, Rosa Gargalakou, opened the 11th GAIA EPICHEIREIN Conference, sending a strong message about the need to accelerate the digital transformation in agricultural production. Speaking to an audience that included government officials, scientists, farmers and institutional bodies, Ms. Gargalakou stressed that technology is no longer an auxiliary means, but the very “core” of modern agriculture. As he characteristically said: “The next day does not wait. Digitization is not an option, it is a one-way street.”

The example of gaiasense

Looking back at the beginning of the effort, Ms. Gargalakou referred to the distant 2012, when “the first ‘seeds’ of smart farming were planted in Greece. Today, the gaiasense platform has over 100,000 users, offering technological tools that improve yields, reduce costs and enhance producer decision-making.” At the same time, she referred to the developments in telemetry stations, which from 2015 until today have passed through three technological generations, with the fourth already in the development phase. The new stations, energy autonomous and equipped with remotely controlled irrigation systems, promise even greater precision and convenience for producers.

The gaisense smart farming system was present at the Panhellenic Exhibition for Agriculture and Livestock AgroThessaly, which took place from 6 to 9 March 2025 at the Covered Market of Neapoli, Larissa, Greece. This event, which takes place every two years, is a pole of attraction for the primary sector, for the developments and new data concerning agriculture and livestock, as well as the products of Greek and global agro-livestock production.

This year, those visitors who were at TENTA: A / StandC03 at the booth of NEUROPUBLIC, the pioneering company in the field of smart farming, had the opportunity to learn about the possibilities given to the producer by the integrated gaiasense system as well as the gaiasense mobile app which provide a significant reduction in production costs but also a substantial improvement in the quantity and quality of products. Finally, they had the opportunity to see up close the innovative digital olive fruit fly trap, gaiaTRAP by NEUROPUBLIC.

With the support of TIF-HELEXPO and the Municipality of Larissa, the 14th edition of AgroThessaly aimed to inform about developments in technology, but also to become a point of commercial contacts and networking for both specialised trade visitors and the general public, while hosting interesting information days and events on agricultural entrepreneurship.

gaiasense at a workshop on “Artificial Intelligence and Start-ups in Agri-Food”

Alt text

At the conference organized on Thursday, November 21 on “Artificial Intelligence and Start-ups in the Agri-Food sector”, Evangelia Fostiropoulou, Technical Project Manager of NEUROPUBLIC, participated in a panel on Artificial Intelligence and the Agri-food sector. The event took place at Atraktos (Athens) and was broadcast via Live Streaming. Its purpose is to open a dialogue on the new data that artificial intelligence has created in the agri-food sector and to highlight the motivations and challenges faced by start-ups, especially those developed by women.

The coordination of this panel was undertaken by Ms. Victoria Apostolopoulou, Editor-in-Chief, Newspaper Ypaithros Chora, while Mr. Dionysis Stamenitis, Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Ms. Evangelia Fostiropoulou, Technical Project Manager, NEUROPUBLIC, Ms. Despina Varouta, Vice President of the Agricultural Cooperative of Zagora Pelion and Mr. Christos Raftogiannis, Founder and CEO of CityCrop.

The representative of NEUROPUBLIC spoke about the role of the company in the wider agri-food sector, with services through the gaiasense platform, for the management of the agricultural holding it has developed, which can be adapted to the needs of a farmer, a collective scheme or a consulting company. Then, Ms. Fostiropoulou explained that “the dynamics of this platform lies in the fact that it has the ability to combine three different data sources, while at the same time operating from a digital booklet“.

She gave details about the gaiasense smart farming system that the company has installed in the Greek countryside as well as the gaisense app, and the data that producers easily receive for their benefit, which ensures the reduction of watering, energy, carbon footprint, spraying, fertilization, etc. and therefore saving money.

She also spoke about the contribution of artificial intelligence to the development and development of the wider agri-food sector, stressing that “the automated solutions it provides facilitate processes and productivity, especially in times when we observe that fewer and fewer people are engaged in production, while at the same time, resources are decreasing, and needs are constantly increasing“. In addition, she added that “artificial intelligence has the potential to provide low-cost services, with high quality and in the coming years it will grow even faster, as one of the greatest strengths it possesses is its own data: the more we use it, the more we feed the models, make them better and we also gain knowledge of how it can evolve“.

Finally, referring to the stereotypes of the male-dominated branches of science and industry, she said that “in recent years we have seen more and more women in science and in leadership roles” while stressing the need to encourage girls of younger ages to engage in STEM disciplines, which are considered male-dominated. They should not enter them with fear.”

The event was organized by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT Food), in collaboration with AWomanCanBe.org, under the auspices of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

NEUROPUBLIC actively supports the empowerment of women’s entrepreneurship in the field of Agri-food and utilizes its experience and know-how in application development and artificial intelligence, at every opportunity, both within the company and at targeted events.
