gaiasense at a workshop on “Artificial Intelligence and Start-ups in Agri-Food”

Alt text

At the conference organized on Thursday, November 21 on “Artificial Intelligence and Start-ups in the Agri-Food sector”, Evangelia Fostiropoulou, Technical Project Manager of NEUROPUBLIC, participated in a panel on Artificial Intelligence and the Agri-food sector. The event took place at Atraktos (Athens) and was broadcast via Live Streaming. Its purpose is to open a dialogue on the new data that artificial intelligence has created in the agri-food sector and to highlight the motivations and challenges faced by start-ups, especially those developed by women.

The coordination of this panel was undertaken by Ms. Victoria Apostolopoulou, Editor-in-Chief, Newspaper Ypaithros Chora, while Mr. Dionysis Stamenitis, Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Ms. Evangelia Fostiropoulou, Technical Project Manager, NEUROPUBLIC, Ms. Despina Varouta, Vice President of the Agricultural Cooperative of Zagora Pelion and Mr. Christos Raftogiannis, Founder and CEO of CityCrop.

The representative of NEUROPUBLIC spoke about the role of the company in the wider agri-food sector, with services through the gaiasense platform, for the management of the agricultural holding it has developed, which can be adapted to the needs of a farmer, a collective scheme or a consulting company. Then, Ms. Fostiropoulou explained that “the dynamics of this platform lies in the fact that it has the ability to combine three different data sources, while at the same time operating from a digital booklet“.

She gave details about the gaiasense smart farming system that the company has installed in the Greek countryside as well as the gaisense app, and the data that producers easily receive for their benefit, which ensures the reduction of watering, energy, carbon footprint, spraying, fertilization, etc. and therefore saving money.

She also spoke about the contribution of artificial intelligence to the development and development of the wider agri-food sector, stressing that “the automated solutions it provides facilitate processes and productivity, especially in times when we observe that fewer and fewer people are engaged in production, while at the same time, resources are decreasing, and needs are constantly increasing“. In addition, she added that “artificial intelligence has the potential to provide low-cost services, with high quality and in the coming years it will grow even faster, as one of the greatest strengths it possesses is its own data: the more we use it, the more we feed the models, make them better and we also gain knowledge of how it can evolve“.

Finally, referring to the stereotypes of the male-dominated branches of science and industry, she said that “in recent years we have seen more and more women in science and in leadership roles” while stressing the need to encourage girls of younger ages to engage in STEM disciplines, which are considered male-dominated. They should not enter them with fear.”

The event was organized by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT Food), in collaboration with AWomanCanBe.org, under the auspices of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

NEUROPUBLIC actively supports the empowerment of women’s entrepreneurship in the field of Agri-food and utilizes its experience and know-how in application development and artificial intelligence, at every opportunity, both within the company and at targeted events.

Just before the end of this anniversary year, NEUROPUBLIC has another reason to celebrate. After the latest successes achieved by undertaking important public interest projects in the agri-food sector, as well as the recent conclusion of dynamic partnerships, the IT and Technology company with its 20-year creative path and headquarters in Piraeus, proves that high expertise, passion and dedication to innovation are rewarded.

This time, the recognition comes from the users of its own products and services, who highlighted the innovative smartphone app, gaiasense app, among the top public choices in both the Apple App Store and the Play Store for Android smartphones.

In fact, the gaiasense app, which brings the future of agricultural production into the hands of the farmer and allows him to earn more with less, is currently among the top 35 apps for iOS phones, ranking 31st, and among the top 10 apps for Android devices, ranking 9th!

NEUROPUBLIC’s gaiasense app helps to improve the quality and quantity of agricultural production, reduce the use of pesticides, fertilizers and irrigation water, reducing the impact of the production process on natural resources and climate, and – last but not least – the cost of production. At the same time, it helps to effectively address the risks that threaten production, ensures its stability and adds value to agricultural products, enhancing their safety, quality and negative carbon footprint.

Thanks to all these features, the gaiasense app is a valuable ally for the farmer’s support under the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-2027, supporting producers who implement environmentally and climate-friendly practices.

The gaiasense app has been upgraded and gained new features! Nutrition Tip & Nutrient Balance

Alt text

At a glance:

  • Calculate the nutrient needs of your crop
  • You get personalized fertilization advice for your field
  • You apply environmentally and climate-friendly practices
  • You benefit from the extra ‘green’ support of the Ecological Programmes

Fertilization Tip

Now, thanks to the gaiasense app, you will be able to receive Fertilization Advice for any plot you wish.

What does this mean?

The Fertilization Advice service analyses the soil fertility of the parcel in terms of both basic soil properties and nutrient content. It calculates the availability and losses of nutrients and compares them with the needs of the crop. If the needs are not met by the soil, it advises the addition of the missing elements. To add the elements, the appropriate fertilizers, the exact dosage and the timing of their application are recommended for the best possible results, always with a focus on the protection of natural resources.

How to get the Tip

Log in to the gaiasense app. On the home page, from the menu, you can select “Fertilization Advice Version”. A list of your parcels will appear, from which you can select the one you wish to receive the advice for. You then select a crop from those currently running on that field.

Finally, you select a soil analysis from the available ones and click ” Export” to receive the advice.

We recommend that you select the most recent soil analysis recorded, so that the advice produced is based on data that best reflects the actual soil condition. *Note: The Fertilization Advice service requires that a full package (advanced) soil analysis has already been registered in the gaiasense platform by you or your agricultural advisor for the parcel of your choice. Otherwise, the order will not be able to be executed.

Nutrient balance

In addition, with the updated gaiasense app you can now receive a Nutrient Balance for the plot of your choice.

What does this mean?

The Nutrient Advisory service analyses the soil fertility of the parcel in terms of both basic soil properties and nutrient content. It calculates the availability and losses of nutrients and compares them with the needs of the crop. If the needs are not met by the soil, it advises the addition of the missing elements. To add the elements, the appropriate fertilisers, the exact dosage and the timing of their application are recommended for the best possible results, always with an emphasis on the protection of natural resources.

How to calculate the Balance

How to calculate the Balance

Log in to the gaiasense app. On the home page, from the menu, you can select “Nutrient Balance Version”. A list of your parcels will appear, from which you can select the one for which you wish to receive the Balance. You then select a crop from those currently being performed on that field.

Then, you select an advanced package soil analysis from those available. We suggest that you prefer the soil analysis that best fits chronologically with the interval you choose next.

Finally, you select the time interval for which you are interested in calculating the Nutrient Balance. The time range you can choose is set to be no more than one year (365 days) and includes one growing season.

By clicking on ” Export ” you receive a report on this balance.

It is noted that after the Crop Period Needs are estimated, the Fertilization Applications you have recorded for the period of your choice are displayed. The final Nutrient Balance and the corresponding Characterisation are obtained by comparing the Needs with the total Applications.

If the total of an added element exceeds the crop’s needs for the selected growing season, then the Balance will be given a “Surplus” designation. If, on the contrary, it falls short of the needs, it will be labelled ‘Deficiency’, and if the needs have been exactly met, it will be labelled ‘Neutral Balance’. * *Note: The Nutrient Balance service assumes that a full package (advanced) soil analysis has already been entered in the gaiasense platform for the parcel of your choice by you or your agricultural advisor. Otherwise the command will not be able to be executed.

Now, green aid is at the farmer’s fingertips with the gaiasense app!

Climate change and environmental degradation are serious concernσ for the EU and the new CAP 2023-2027, which has set specific “green” targets.

In this context, it proposes a new support scheme for producers, the “Eco-schemes”, which will replace the “greening” scheme known from the previous programming period.

What are the Ecological Programmes

In order to receive extra “green” support, a producer must apply environmentally and climate-friendly practices on his/her field. These practices are specific and are described in the national CAP Strategic Plan and the relevant Ministerial Decisions as “Eco-Programmes”. Each producer has the possibility to choose among the available practices – Eco-Programmes in order to be eligible for this additional “green” support.

By selecting the gaiasense app when submitting his/her declaration for the EAE to the APCs cooperating with GAIA EPICHEIREIN, the producer:

  • They take the first mandatory step to securely join the Eco-Scheme 6 by acquiring an easy-to-use and reliable digital application for the use of which they receive a subsidy.
  • It also secures the second mandatory step for its eligibility for Eco-Scheme 6, as it gains the possibility to have the required Environmental Management Plan (EMP) prepared by a qualified agricultural consultant. And that is why it is subsidised!
  • It creates the conditions to easily and successfully integrate and implement at least one (1) and up to two (2) practices/actions in the field for which significant support is foreseen.
  • Gain access to additional useful digital services for their crops, i.e. beyond those necessary for their eligibility/subsidy under the Ecological Scheme 6 (weather forecast, satellite imagery, water indicators, spray suitability, etc.). For all, it has ongoing technical support from an experienced team.
  • They have a digital application in their hands, which opens the door for other CAP 2023-2027 schemes/measures, such as, for example, agricultural advice, which now foresee the use of such digital applications.

So, thanks to the gaiasense app, every producer gets:

  • A calendar of cultivation work that helps them to record in detail all the work in the field, for each plot separately, through the mobile phone. This way, they have all the tasks at his disposal immediately, at any time, while they get a complete picture of their cultivation and make better decisions for their production.
  • Daily information on the development of each crop. So, they don’t have to go to the field all the time and that way they save time and money.
  • Quick checkup in the field, from a distance, to see if something is not going well and intervene accordingly.
  • Information on when it is the right time to spray and water crops. This avoids unnecessary waste of water and pesticides.
  • Five-day weather forecast, specific to the area where each field is located, and warnings of extreme weather events 48 hours before they occur.

And they win:

  • Reducing the use of pesticides, fertilizers and irrigation water.
  • Addressing crop risks more effectively.
  • Improving production both quantitatively and qualitatively. This adds value to agricultural products and makes them more competitive.
  • ” Greening ” their production in order to comply with the requirements of the new CAP.
  • Significantly reducing production costs.

The dynamic presentation of gaiasense at AgroThessaly 2023

Alt text

The participation of NEUROPUBLIC IT and Technology company at the 13th Panhellenic Exhibition for Agriculture and Livestock AgroThessaly 2023, which was organized, after postponement due to the railway tragedy in Tempi, between 9-12 March 2023 at the Covered Market of Neapolis Larissa, in collaboration with TIF-HELEXPO, was successfully completed.

The aim of the specific biannual event, which returned to the exhibition scene this year after an absence of four years due to the pandemic, was to showcase the products of Greek and global agri-food production, to inform about all the developments in new technologies and to create, in the most developed agricultural region of our country, an important networking point for domestic and international trade contacts. And it has certainly succeeded.

NEUROPUBLIC was among the 750 exhibitors of the event and presented to the agricultural world of Thessaly, and not only, the innovative gaiasense smart farming system and the gaiasense mobile app, which express in the best way the philosophy of “smart farming” and put into practice the digital transformation of the primary sector.

Specifically, the gaiasense app brings high-end technology to every field, to every mobile phone, in the hands of every farmer and on every farm, regardless of size and crop, responding to the ever-increasing needs of producers.

Following the contacts that took place during the four days of AgroThessaly, NEUROPUBLIC confirmed the perspectives concerning the digitalization of the countryside and are in line with its dynamic strategic agenda. Besides, besides the increased interest of visitors in advanced technologies, the high brand awareness of gaiasense proved once again that the innovative smart farming system is the most comprehensive solution and the most reliable ally of the farmer in the face of the challenges of the times.

“Our participation in Agrothessaly, especially after a long period of absence due to the pandemic, was particularly important. The meetings and communication channels with the general public and buyers, as well as the exchange of ideas and expertise between exhibitors exceeded all expectations. During the four days of the exhibition, we had the opportunity to explore how eager the agricultural world is to move into the digital age. What we have seen fills us with optimism,” said George Papadimas, NEUROPUBLIC’s Commercial Director about its participation.

In addition to the classic exhibition events, this year, AgroThessaly hosted a variety of interesting informative workshops and events for agricultural entrepreneurship, while more than 44,000 people – from industry professionals to representatives from both the local and national market – passed through its gates.

NEUROPUBLIC and the gaiasense system supported the dynamic comeback of the 29th Agrotica International Fair

Alt text

The Agrotica International Fair has become an annual hub for the exchange of ideas, innovation and technology, as well as new products and services for the primary sector, which, after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 update, took place on 20-23 October 2022 in Thessaloniki.

A large number of farmers – and not only – from Greece, the Balkans and the South East Europe passed through the gates of the HELEXPO International Exhibition Centre to have a close look at the solutions and proposals presented by the major industries and companies representing new technologies and all the latest developments in machinery, supplies and equipment for the agri-food sector – proof that the sector is hungry for information and meaningful commercial contacts in the context of the 29th International Exhibition of Agricultural Machinery, Equipment and Supplies.

NEUROPUBLIC, a pioneer in the green and digital transformation of Greek agricultural production, participated in the first post-pandemic edition of the exhibition – a benchmark for the agricultural world. In a specially designed central booth, the Greek company welcomed a large number of farmers, agricultural consultants, agronomists, geotechnicians, researchers and representatives of companies in the field who wanted to learn more about its integrated proposals.

Specifically, visitors of Agrotica 2022 showed particular interest in smart farming, realizing that it is a one-way street for the sustainable future of the primary sector. It is characteristic that a large percentage of those who browsed the NEUROPUBLIC stand were already informed about its gaiasense smart farming system, as well as the gaiasense app, which frees producers’ hands and helps them to better and more effectively manage their agricultural activities with a “click” from their mobile phone. In fact, they had the opportunity to test the app live and see its updated capabilities thanks to two new additions:

1. The ability for each producer to manually register his/her parcels of land, drawing his/her fields on the map easily through the mobile phone, and

2. The cultivation work calendar, which helps the farmer to have on his mobile phone, easily and quickly, a detailed record of all the work in the field, such as irrigation, plant protection, fertilization, harvesting, cultivation care and soil management, in each of his individual parcels, to be sure that there is no risk of losing the diary and his history from the application, and to “green” his production, in line with the requirements of the new CAP.

Meaningful discussions and contacts, innovative solutions, detailed information. NEUROPUBLIC’s participation in Agrotica 2022 was a success and confirmed its leading position in the digital transformation of the primary sector and agri-food, in general.
