BEANS – Ploutos Project

The Ploutos project is an EU-funded project that aims to balance the value chain in order to benefit all stakeholders, such as farmers, cooperatives, agri-food companies, technology providers, SMEs and others. It started in autumn 2020 and will be completed after the end of the 2023 growing season.

By combining Behavioral Innovation, Sustainable Collaborative Business Model Innovation and Data-Driven Technology Services, Ploutos helps increase transparency, information flow and stewardship. The result is more competitive, efficient, resilient and sustainable agri-food value chains with improved performance and positive socio-economic and environmental impact.

In all of the above, the role of gaiasense is central. A typical example is the cultivation of beans in the areas of Lakomma and Ieropigi in the prefecture of Kastoria.

Cooperating with AROSIS S.A., producers enjoy the benefits of using the gaiasense smart farming system, applying rational input management practices in the areas of irrigation and nutrition as well as targeted cover interventions to protect the crop from anthracnose and slagging, respectively.

Finally, by linking gaiasense to Ploutos’ traceability solution, all the necessary data/evidence is collected to ensure that producers follow the defined product specifications while meeting consumer requirements related to the use of sustainable production practices.
